Is there a particular reason why the average age for marriage these days is being pushed to later years by young people?

These days, most of us running into our late 20s and early 30s are hesitant to say the age old "I do". If spoken to about marriage, faces flush, throats get choked and an irreverent "No way!" are common reactions. If one was to wonder, how has this come about to be?

Yes, in my opinion there is a specific reason that the young Indians are gradually pushing their age for marriage. To begin with let me say that the young persons of today's India have been born of the couples who tended to start this process, at least in their minds 2 to 3 decades earlier. That was the transition stage which has started bearing fruits in today's times. The burning desire couple of decades ago for essentially having a career prior to settling in a family way, and which could not be implemented in those times has been transferred through the genes in the newer generation. The "Youngistani - Indians" have different priorities. They want to be independent, develop more purchase power, live life stylishly and like to be always in their own control rather than being "under" someone at least financially. This change has fortunately occurred more in the females. Besides solving many other issues, it would at least make positive in-roads in reducing the population growth. I welcome this change provided the young Indians do not allow this change to hamper the relationship factor.

well it could be a function of lifestyle and how people have started focusing on understanding a change than dive into it and deal with it. They want to look for partners that are an extension to themselves, which may happen at any age and strangely it happens in later years when one is in substantial control of ones life. I think it is not a conscious decision but happens if one lets the life flow and doesnt follow any norm as such!

there are available more and more avenues for the young men and they are more mindful of their careers excessively.they have no time to think of running a family.their interest in sex might not have dwindled, but they are deferring their option to launch their family life.in AP, there is an analysis that the number of women as against men has come down in the upper levels of the society and men find it a bit difficult to find a suitable bride.may be ,there are others factors also which result in postponed marriages

Something called 'Philophobia' - the fear of commitment. So much to do in this lifetime and marriage does tie you down!

To the extent that people are willing to live in loneliness?
