We are allowed vote at 18 as it is a contribution in the election of Government and the other votes might correct our decision if we made a wrong one. We are allowed to marry at 21 as there is always the other person (the spouse) to balance us. Alcohol consumption does not provide us with supporting facilities, rather can make a young one more disbalanced and perhaps that is the reason that some people thought of enhancing the age bar. The matter is however thoroughly debatable. But rules become mandatory when people go off the track. Instead of having an age bar of 25 years for drinking I would propose NO age bar at all, but ban people of all ages coming out of the houses after consuming alcohol.
I think that parents here should play role models. I've seen it in my case as well as others that when parents initiate drinking with children (like stereotypically many sons have their first beer with their father), then they're more responsible towards their drinking habits and truly know what their capacity is. The more you keep it a novelty, the more a person's bound to be tempted to cross his/her limits or not even know them.
well, im not sure how many teenagers make sure they dont get drunk when they drink..i always thought getting drunk was the prime idea at that age when one touched alcohol..my shifting the responsibility to the kids by allowing them at 21 may be we can see some responsible drinking..by stopping or limiting them we are only instigating the towards what they are stopped from!
I think its perfectly alright for the drinking age to be 25 because even if teenagers do drink they make sure not get too drunk because if they get caught there will be serious repercussions!!!!
'Most' teenagers drink carefully BECAUSE there's a 25-limit....if the limit got lowered they'd think that they are doing nothing wrong cause the law permits them to drink......
Well i as a teenager would disagree. They drink carefully because either they have to go back home (read as parent-fear) or that they cannot handle their alcohol (read as 'some' incident).
The point is that 25+ do not drink any more casually than 18-year olds. Only more frequently, if anything.
Isha - Wishful thinking indeed. Nowadays, school children wanna booze as often as anybody else. And easy availability of booze just adds fuel to the fire. School Conti. Parties serve alcohol, College fresher parties serve alcohol. So i don't think much of abstaining is possible. It is basically about self control. Those who do not wanna drink, do not drink. No matter the age. But yes, 21 looks like a good number. Atleast it would give the newly turned '18-year-old-adults' a not-so-long wait to start 'responsible' drinking (if such a thing exists)

I don't quite follow. If teenagers drink carefully (so to say), why is the 25-year limit ok?
