Do we need another Gandhi (read Priyanka Gandhi) in the face of current state of affairs under the ruling party?

03 Feb 2012 | Governance | By Isha.Gupta | 5comments

Priyanka Gandhi has emerged as the new face of Congress! They call her the star campaigner for Congress. Although she has clearly conveyed that she would limit campaigning in Amethi and Rae Bareli, many are of the opinion that this is just a start. Are we ready for a set of new unreliable promises? Do you think if she turns into a future leader, her leadership has potential to bring change for India?

The biggest factor for effecting any change anywhere in the world (be it in a family or in a business organization or in a sports team or even at a national level or international level) is the "Acceptability" of the person who is initiating or working for that change. If you are not acceptable to the people, no one would even listen to what you are saying. And this becomes all the more important in Politics in India where only those people are mattering more who think less by their own minds and usually get swayed by the scene painted temporarily in front of them. Therefore, if there is another Gandhi available or who so ever who has the capacity to make people lend their ears to her/him and who can affect a positive change through those same people, then so be it. Why should we need to bother about the family background of that person or the connectivity of that person with the past politics? A change needs to be welcomed and it is immaterial as to who is bringing it until the change is seen to be for good and positive in nature.

@Kanna51 and @Jawedansari - well said..as long as the supposed leaders prove their metal and work, whats in a name! I wish these leaders are listening!

i feel that by outward attraction, one does not go very far in politics as is proved in AP.people always thronged the meetings of chiranjeevi, but when it came to the actual election,he went bust.the same might happen in UP also.priyanka must go to the grassroot level,if she wants to demonstrate her mettle.right now,we can't jump to some conclusions.

We need leaders with clean image and much reliability factor. Quality matters, who cares about the name. Be it Gandhi or not. As it is, this family has only adopted the same title. As per normal social practice the family should have been using a different title.
