In Delhi Metro trains there are seats reserved for ladies in all the coaches. Then there is an entire coach reserved for them now, while reserved seats in all coaches also continue. Otherwise, women talk of equality. How fair is it?

I think there is nothing wrong with reserving couple of seats for women in every coach.
(a)they may be carrying their kids when traveling with their family and so these seats can come in handy.
(b)Males should be courteous enough to offer a seat to ladies ,elderly and disabled or any one who look little fragile.
(c)Equality of rights ! what if they reserve half of the coaches for women?

As of now and as things stand today it is not grossly unfair to provide a facility to females in Delhi metro trains. But yes, with time one needs to get rid of this reservation policy. I believe it will take some more time for such a time to come.

unfortunately india has not reached a particular stage when women are not mere sex objects.the harassment continues in spite of passage of times.the attitudes do not change.molesting of women continues at the slightest opportunity.can we foresee any change in the nearest future?can we do away with reservation of seats completely?are they so safe?

There is no point raising a question just over a separate metro coach .I guess a lady would understand its importance more than anyone else because its her who has to bear the obnoxious behaviour done to her. And if it is giving a sense of security and safety to the ladies ,then its totally justified and valid

For comfort ...For convenience....For security...YES!!!

Having said that, I would love to see a place where equality is driven from heart rather than law. The aim should be to nurture the concept of ...Chivalry!!!
(I think thats what you call it in English?).

Reserving the seats didn't ensure safer spaces becoz men were occupying those seats shameless (like they do in DTC as well).

Totally agree - even in the "pink" coach, I have seen so many males - especially towards the end of the coach - at times so many guys board the first coach (last door) and might or might not move to the next coach - depending on how vocal the females in the coach are.

i think safety is more of a priority than equality of the lack thereof. with the sheer amount of harassment and what-not that happens today, i think it's totally fair.

very fair! with all those stairs and unnecessary body brushing and using the excuse of all that crowd, women deserve all safety possible!

I think jeetalex raised a valid question. I am not denying that there is no need for reservation, but the question is: are we not overdoing it or are we doing it in the right way? Neither should anyone object to women being allowed to enter the general coaches. Only questionable issue is the continuance of reserved seats in general coaches even after the provision of previously absent ladies coach.
Overdoing reservation might lead to frustration in people who are made to compromise a bit too much. This clearly can't lead to creation of safer spaces.
