That is probably because we never understood "The Gita" in the right perspective. Having said this I personally do not believe in Capital Punishment except for some extreme exemplarary cases. A person who committed a crime should be made to strictly "Work" in the same arena in which he committed the crime so that he can be a live example to the ones who are motivated to commit crime and also for the person to make amends for his bad deeds.
